Every religious tradition has games it plays with the divine — prayer is, in its deepest sense, a kind of hopeful play across the gap between human and holy. Nasreddin played this game with unusual directness: his conversations with God were less petition than argument, which God apparently found acceptable. The sacred game is one where losing is still a form of contact, and contact is the point.
