Chronic loneliness vs. situational loneliness

Situational loneliness has a horizon — a new place, a transition, a loss that will eventually make room for new connection. Chronic loneliness has no such horizon visible; it persists across situations and relationships, which is part of what makes it so frightening. Understanding the difference matters for knowing what kind of response is called for — one may require circumstance to shift; the other often requires something more interior.
