Emotional abuse in relationships

Emotional abuse is difficult to identify partly because its methods are invisible and partly because it often coexists with genuine love, leaving the person harmed holding both the wound and the affection simultaneously. Its patterns — contempt, control, isolation, chronic criticism, gaslighting — damage the self slowly and systematically, and their effects persist long after the relationship ends. This domain looks at what emotional abuse actually is, how it operates, and how to begin the work of recovery.
