Fasting and time — the reset

To fast is to introduce a gap — to allow absence to teach what presence has obscured. Ramadan, Yom Kippur, the Andean juno, the Indigenous vision fast: all use the removal of something ordinary to make the structure of time newly visible. The gap is not deprivation; it is the empty center that makes the wheel turn.
