How grief changes over years and decades

Grief in the first year is generally different from grief in the fifth or the twentieth — less acute, more integrated, present in different ways. But different is not the same as gone, and the ways grief changes across time are worth understanding rather than discovering by surprise. This domain follows grief across the full arc of its development, drawing on longitudinal research and the testimony of long-term mourners.
