Ritual — why it matters and how it works

Ritual is not superstition — it is the technology by which meaning is made visible, felt in the body, shared by the community. When the Shabbat candles are lit, when the incense rises at a Hindu puja, when the drum begins in a Native ceremony, something changes in the room that cannot be explained by the physical events alone. Ritual does not describe transformation — it enacts it.
