Sor Juana had no university degree, no formal religious theological training equivalent to male scholars. Yet she commanded respect through the sheer brilliance, range, and originality of her writing. She proved her intellectual authority by doing the work—producing poetry, theology, natural philosophy, and criticism of such sophistication that dismissing her became intellectually indefensible. This framework applies powerfully to authenticity across traditions: many who navigate multiple cultural or spiritual inheritances lack official standing in any single tradition. Yet their synthesized perspective, hard-won through lived experience and genuine study, carries its own authority. Rather than seeking external validation, this concept suggests demonstrating competence, depth, and insight so clearly that one's voice becomes undeniable, regardless of formal status.
