The Cost of Non-Conformity to Identity Norms

For assigned-female cisgender people who pursue unconventional paths, the costs can be profound: loss of belonging, economic precarity, relational rupture, emotional toll. This framework asks: what have you sacrificed to live your cisgender identity authentically? What costs do you carry? What support systems do you need? Justice requires not only protecting people's right to self-determination but also building structures that minimize the cost of authenticity. We need communities, economic systems, and institutions that don't demand sacrifice as the price of being yourself. Naming the cost is the first step toward refusing to normalize it.
