Sor Juana's extensive learning—in theology, philosophy, science, languages, and arts—was not merely personal enrichment; it was the foundation of her authority to speak. In her time, when women's voices were systematically devalued, she accumulated knowledge so comprehensive that her authority became difficult to dismiss. This concept proposes that marginalized groups have historically used education and expertise as a path to self-authorization when social permission was denied. Knowledge becomes a form of power that no one can arbitrarily take away. Across cultures, oppressed communities have prioritized education as liberation, understanding that mastery of dominant systems creates space for authentic voice.
