She understood that total visibility could be dangerous, yet total concealment meant erasure. This paradox applies powerfully to cisgender identity examined: some aspects of gender can be safely expressed, while others require discretion depending on context. This framework refuses the false binary of "authentic self always visible" versus "hiding equals inauthenticity." For cisgender people, especially those whose gender expression diverges from narrow norms, strategic choices about when and how to present oneself become acts of wisdom rather than deception.
