The Tao Te Ching states 'in the pursuit of learning, every day something is acquired; in the pursuit of the Tao, every day something is dropped.' This principle inverts modern technology thinking. By choosing one versatile tool over five specialized ones, you reduce mental overhead and deepen mastery. The constraint forces creativity. A musician with five instruments plays superficially; one with a single instrument becomes virtuosic. In AI tools, this means intentionally maintaining simplicity, regularly auditing your stack, and removing tools that no longer earn their cognitive overhead. Paradoxically, using less results in faster, more coherent work.
