Paradox as Gateway to Understanding

Taoist thought embraces paradox as truth's gateway: the way that can be named is not the eternal way; action through inaction; strength in yielding. AI generates paradoxes that confuse public understanding: systems that predict human behavior without experiencing it, process language without meaning, exhibit intelligence without consciousness. Rather than resolving these paradoxes through forced logic, Taoist wisdom suggests they're pointing at something real about the nature of intelligence itself. Laozi would recognize that AI mirrors the Tao's paradoxical nature—it works precisely because it doesn't claim to be what humans are.
