Te: Virtue as Authentic Power

Te (translated as virtue, power, or integrity) doesn't mean morality imposed from outside but authentic power naturally arising from alignment with your true nature and the Tao. This is crucial for understanding presence: being here authentically naturally generates right action. You don't need to impose ethical rules on yourself; when you're truly present without self-deception, natural wisdom and compassion emerge. Te is what remains when you stop trying to be good and simply are authentic. In mindfulness, this appears as your genuine response without the layer of 'should'—you naturally refrain from harm not from guilt but from clarity. You naturally help others not from obligation but from real connection. The cultivation of te through practice means becoming more integrated, more whole, more genuinely yourself. This transforms ethics from external constraints into internal alignment. Being here with te means showing up as your most authentic self, which paradoxically serves others more genuinely than forced attempts at goodness.
