The Dissolution of Witness

Mirabai lost everyone—her family rejected her, her husband died, her community condemned her. Yet in that complete dissolution of external witness, she found Krishna, an internal witness who saw her without judgment or agenda. When you grieve your lost identity, part of the pain is that no one remembers the person you were, or they remember it differently than you do. This concept teaches that the dissolution of external witness, though devastating, creates space for authentic self-recognition. You cannot perform for an audience that's gone; you cannot seek approval from people who've rejected you. This clears away the false motivations that shaped your former identity. The spiritual work is to become the witness to yourself—the one who sees your truth without distortion, judges without harshness, loves without conditions. This is the hardest and most liberating work. Mirabai did it through devotion to Krishna; you do it through whatever awakens your deepest recognition of self.
