Mirabai sang only to Krishna, yet her devotion was universal—she belonged to the divine, not to any single human form. In modern affairs and broken trust, we often demand that our partner be our "everything," replicating the structure of bhakti but with a mortal. This creates what Mirabai's tradition reveals as a fundamental error: treating human love as if it carries the infinite nature of divine love. When your partner betrays you, it often signals this confusion—they were never meant to be your sole source of meaning, security, or identity. The examined heart asks: What divine role did I assign to this person? What do I actually need from a human partnership versus what only spiritual practice can provide? Recognizing this distinction does not diminish human love; it frees it from impossible weight.
