Why It Matters

Mirabai's devotion to Krishna persisted whether she perceived his physical presence or not—the love transcended form. This teaching becomes crucial for grieving children who confuse the death of a body with the death of relationship. Through this lens, a child can understand: the person I loved is gone in body, but the love remains. The relationship continues in a changed form. This doesn't minimize the pain of physical absence—it's real and devastating—but it expands what's possible. A child can still speak to their loved one, feel their influence, carry their values forward, and experience their presence in memory and spirit. This framework prevents the dangerous conclusion that death means the relationship is entirely erased, offering instead a more nuanced understanding of how love persists and transforms.
