Why It Matters

Raasa is taste, essence, the emotional and sensory fullness of an experience. In bhakti poetry, raasa is how the devotee experiences the divine in each moment of worship. Applied to anticipatory grief, raasa invites us to taste the person fully—their voice, their humor, their particular way of being—as if each interaction were sacred and complete in itself. This is not morbid hypervigilance but conscious relishing: the warmth of their hand, the specific cadence of their laugh, the wisdom in their silence. By cultivating raasa, we shift from clock-time (counting down) to presence-time (drinking deeply). This practice ensures that even brief moments become infinitely full, creating a lived sense of plenty rather than scarcity as time contracts.
