Vivaha-Nishtha: The Wedding Vow Beyond Marriage

Mirabai is famous for declaring herself "married to Krishna"—a spiritual marriage that was more real to her than any earthly union. Vivaha-nishtha refers to the sacred vow and commitment of this spiritual wedding. In contemporary celibate partnerships, this concept offers a framework for deep commitment and public acknowledgment without requiring sexual intimacy or legal marriage. Two people can make spiritual vows to each other, creating a witnessed covenant of love, loyalty, and mutual support.
