He might follow etiquette rules so exactly that they produce ridiculous outcomes, or he might question why society values things it values. This technique appears across comedy traditions: in Aristophanes's Greek comedies satirizing war through absurd scenarios, in commedia dell'arte's physical exaggerations of social pretense, in contemporary stand-up comedy dissecting cultural norms. By depicting ordinary situations pushed to logical extremes, comedians reveal the constructed nature of social reality. This framework shows that what seems natural and inevitable—how we greet, dress, conduct business—is actually arbitrary and changeable. Laughter becomes a form of temporary liberation, allowing audiences to see their world freshly and question assumptions they'd accepted without examination.
