This comic inversion appears universally: Aristophanes inverting gender power, Charlie Chaplin inverting class hierarchy, Mulla Nasrudin inverting marketplace logic. The technique works because it reveals that many rules operate through convention rather than natural law. Comedy traditions worldwide exploit this gap between stated logic and actual application. When a character applies rational thinking to irrational situations, or vice versa, the collision generates laughter while exposing cultural blindspots. This concept illuminates how comedy functions as a tool for recognizing that our 'common sense' is culturally constructed and potentially arbitrary, inviting more thoughtful examination of why we believe what we believe.
