Rabia's concept of fana—the annihilation of the self in divine love—directly parallels the ancestor veneration principle that individual identity extends backward and forward through generations. In Confucian thought, the self is always relational; in Ubuntu philosophy, 'I am because we are.' Rabia teaches that ego dissolves when we truly love, revealing our fundamental interdependence. Applied to ancestors, this means releasing the illusion of a separate, isolated self and recognizing that our thoughts, values, and spiritual essence flow from those who came before.
