Belonging Beyond Utility or Achievement

In Rabia's spirituality, humans are beloved by the divine not for what they accomplish or produce, but for their mere existence. This vision fundamentally challenges achievement-oriented cultures. Applied to Building community intentionally, it means creating spaces where belonging doesn't depend on utility—on being helpful, talented, or successful. Everyone, including the struggling, the sick, the old, the struggling with addiction or mental illness, belongs fully. Practically, communities embody this by celebrating people for who they are at gatherings, creating roles and participation opportunities for those with limited capacity, explicitly valuing rest and non-productivity, and resisting the pull toward turning everything into a project. Rituals might include celebrating birthdays, acknowledging life transitions, or regularly stating community values that center inherent worth. This counterculturally affirms that people matter even when they're not producing—a radical healing for those internalized by capitalist logics. When members experience unconditional belonging, shame decreases, mental health improves, and community becomes truly restorative rather than extractive.
