Why It Matters

Generational trauma often teaches that belonging is conditional—you earn family love through achievement, compliance, or by absorbing others' emotional pain. Rabia's radical love offered belonging unconditionally, a revolutionary idea in patriarchal systems where women's worth was measured by productivity and obedience. Practicing unconditional belonging means deliberately showing up for others without requiring them to earn it, be useful, or manage your emotions. It means saying: you belong here because you exist, not because of what you do. For trauma survivors, this simple act—both receiving it and offering it—rewires neural pathways formed by conditional love. When someone accepts your presence without needing you to be perfect, help them, or disappear, it contradicts the implicit family message. Over time, repeated experiences of unconditional acceptance can gradually shift the deep belief that love requires sacrifice or performance.
