Rabia's legacy includes the practice of being fully present to another person's inner reality, regardless of their social position or usefulness. This wasn't charity or service; it was the recognition of shared humanity and shared yearning. Mutual witnessing is the antidote to the loneliness of fitting in. When you fit in, you're watched and evaluated; when you belong, you're witnessed. Witnessing means paying attention to someone's truth, their struggles, their authentic self—not their performance or productivity. In genuine communities, members witness each other's growth, failures, contradictions, and transformations without requiring these to be polished or acceptable. Rabia witnessed the Divine and was witnessed by it; this mutual recognition shaped her entire being.
