Why It Matters

Rabia spoke of ecstatic union with the divine—the overwhelming joy of being fully known and loved. Young children experience a parallel ecstasy when they are fully known by their caregivers and community. In the 3-6 age range, language accelerates when a child feels safe being fully themselves—quirks, mistakes, wild ideas, and all. A caregiver who knows that this child prefers to whisper rather than shout, who loves dinosaurs and loss, who has a specific way of asking for help, creates conditions for authentic language to flourish. This knowing extends to understanding the child's play language: what they're exploring, fearing, celebrating through blocks and pretend. When children experience this ecstasy of being known, they relax into learning. They ask more questions, attempt harder words, set their own gentle boundaries because they've internalized the love beneath all limits. This deep knowing becomes a community legacy: the child learns what it means to be cherished not despite their uniqueness but because of it.
