Why It Matters

Intergenerational trauma work often bypasses grief, moving quickly to healing or forgiveness. But Rabia's mysticism was rooted in longing, yearning, a kind of sacred grief for reunion with the Divine. The Grief Gateway honors grief as essential: you grieve the childhood you didn't have, the parents who couldn't show up fully, the safety you had to create alone, the version of yourself that might have been in a different family. This isn't wallowing; it's moving through. When you allow yourself to feel the full weight of what you inherited and what was withheld, something shifts. The energy that went into adapting, managing, protecting loosens. You meet yourself with compassion for all you survived without. This grief is a gateway because on the other side is genuine choice. Not choice forced by willpower or spiritual bypassing, but choice that emerges from having fully grieved what was. Rabia's longing for God emerged from having nothing else; your longing for a different way of being becomes possible only when you've grieved what was.
