Why It Matters

Rabia's spiritual journey involved crossing thresholds—leaving her home, renouncing attachments, entering mystery. The Sacred Threshold is a practice for acknowledging the moment you decide: this pattern ends here. Not in the future, not eventually, but now. This might be a ritual (lighting a candle, speaking aloud, writing a letter), or simply a conscious moment where you name the boundary. "My mother shamed me about my body. I will not do this to my daughter." "My father was absent. I will be present." These declarations are powerful because they mark a before and after. They acknowledge that you're doing something brave and difficult. Your ancestors did their best with what they knew; you're choosing to know differently. By naming the threshold—making it visible and intentional—you prevent the new pattern from being unconscious. Your children recognize that change is possible, that patterns can be interrupted, that love sometimes means doing things differently than we learned.
