Am I building my own work, or just making them look good?

You work close to someone powerful. Their name opens doors. Their decisions set the pace. It feels important to be near that. But nearness is not the same as building. Here is the trap: their success covers for your uncertainty. You stay busy, you get praised, you never have to ask the hard question — because the shadow is comfortable and comfort asks nothing of you. That comfort is the thing to be suspicious of. You are not doing this alone, which helps. A team can see what one person hides from himself. Say the quiet part out loud to each other: are we serving one person's vision, or are we each building something we could carry out that door?

Ask yourself one question: if this leader vanished tomorrow, what would still be yours? A skill, a body of work, a name people trust. If nothing comes to mind, you are not building — you are amplifying. That is the test. Everything else is decoration.

A moveStop counting closeness to the leader as an achievement. Access is not output.
