Am I Too Old, or Just Scared?
Nasreddin decided at sixty to learn to swim. His neighbors laughed. 'You'll drown, old man, the river doesn't care about your dignity.' Nasreddin nodded, walked to the river, and stood at the edge for three days. On the fourth day a boy half his age jumped in and swam across. Nasreddin turned to his neighbors. 'I was not counting years,' he said. 'I was counting excuses.' You know this trick. You say the word 'too old' and it sounds wise, almost noble. But say the word 'afraid' and it just sounds like fear. Same feeling, different coat. Your pod has heard you use this coat before — on the dance floor, on the trip you didn't take, on the class you didn't sign up for. This page won't tell you that you're not too old. It will help you and your people catch the moment the coat goes on, and try the thing anyway, together, before the excuse gets comfortable again.
Age is the dignified lie. Fear is the embarrassing truth. When you say 'I'm too old,' check it: does someone older than you do this thing? If yes, it was never age. It was fear wearing age's coat. Name the fear out loud, with your people, and the coat falls off.

- You can name the difference between age and fear in your own words.
- Your pod has one shared small action attempt, not just a conversation about it.
- You have a person assigned to catch the excuse the next time it shows up.
- The experience feels less loaded — tried once, it stops being a monument.
