How do we hire help when we've never managed anyone?
You say you need help. Look closer — you need to stop being the only one who knows how the work gets done. That is a different problem, and paperwork will not solve it. Right now, the work lives in your head, or scattered across your team's habits. No one else can hold it because you have never written it down. Hiring someone into that fog will not fix the fog. It will just add a confused person to it. The task before you is not recruiting. It is translation — turning what you already know into something another person could pick up and run with. Do that first, together, and the hiring becomes almost mechanical.
You don't need HR training. You need to make what's in your head visible enough that someone else can do it. Write down one task you keep doing yourself, step by step, as if explaining it to a stranger. That document is your first hire's job description. Do this before you post any listing.
What changes unlock by starting
- A written, shareable version of a task that used to live only in your head
- A first hire or teammate handed real work, not just busywork
- Less flinching when you imagine letting go of a task
- A pod that can say clearly what 'done well' looks like for that task
