How far does my responsibility for this AI actually go?

Your pod built this thing, and now it's out in the world doing things none of you fully planned. Every strange output, every misuse, every unintended ripple seems to come back to your door. It feels like you own all of it, forever. That feeling is not virtue. It is confusion between what you control and what you don't. You control the design, the testing, the limits you set, the warnings you give. You do not control every person who misuses what you made, or every accident nobody could have seen. Your pod's task is not to guarantee the future — no one can. It is to do the work in front of you with full attention, set honest limits, and review what you find, together, without flinching. If the weight of this follows you home and won't lift, that is worth raising with someone outside the pod too.

What’s really going on

You are not responsible for every consequence downstream — only for what you could reasonably foresee and the care you took before you acted. Draw that line now, with your team, in writing. Beyond it, you did your part; let the outcome go where it goes.

A moveWrite down, as a pod, the three worst outcomes you can reasonably foresee — then stop imagining a fourth.
A moveSet a review date now, before deployment, and put it on the calendar — not 'someday.'
A moveName one person outside the pod who can catch what you can't see, and give them real access.
A moveWhen something goes wrong later, ask first: did we act with care at the time? Not: could we have somehow known.
A moveSeparate 'we made a mistake' from 'we are the mistake.' Write the difference down and keep it near you.

What changes unlock by starting

  • Your pod stops treating every downstream effect as a personal failure.
  • You have a written, shared line between what you control and what you don't.
  • Decisions get made faster because you're not paralyzed by imagined futures.
  • When something does go wrong, you already know how to judge it fairly.
One object, two jobs: a public answer to a real problem, and — the moment you start the chat — Aurelius’s live plan for your version of it.
