I have pension contributions but no idea what they'll give me

Most people carry this same blank space. Not because the number is hidden by design, but because no one taught them it was theirs to ask for. A system that lets its central promise stay unread does not serve the person who trusts it — it serves only those with the money to hire someone to read it for them. That is not reason. That is exclusion by neglect. The record itself is plain enough. It lists years, contributions, gaps. What is missing is not the information but the habit of looking at it — and the confidence that looking is allowed. This is easier done with others. Fear of an unclear number grows in isolation and shrinks the moment someone beside you says, 'I don't know mine either.'
