Is it okay that all my friendships live online now?

You have not shared a room with most of your friends in years. This did not happen on purpose. It happened one skipped visit at a time, until distance felt normal. Here is the honest question. Is the screen where love lives now, or is it where you hide from love's harder asks? Love does not mind the phone call. But love also wants to sit across a table and see a face change when it laughs. Do not shame yourself for the years that passed. Shame will not book a flight. Only love, or the plain wish to see a friend again, will do that.

What’s really going on

Online is not fake love. But ask why you stayed there instead of the room. Was it ease, or fear of the asking, the traveling, the awkward hello? Name the true reason. Then let love, not guilt, pick one friend and one date this week.

A movePick one friend today, the one whose name still makes you smile. Text them this exact message: 'I miss your face. Are you free on [date A], [date B], or [date C]?' Send it in the next hour.
A moveBefore you send it, ask yourself plainly: am I doing this from love, or from guilt about how long it's been? If it's guilt, send it anyway. Guilt can open the door love walks through.
A moveIf they live far away, do not wait for 'someday.' Book one concrete thing now: a two-night visit within the next two months, or a stop in their city on a trip you already have planned.
A moveWhen you are finally in the room together, put your phone in another room for the first hour. Let the visit be slow and a little awkward. That awkwardness is just love remembering itself.
A moveAfter you leave, write one sentence about something you learned about them face to face that the screen never showed you. Keep it somewhere you'll see it again.

  • One real date on your calendar within a week, not just a good intention.
  • An honest answer to whether love or fear has kept you at a distance.
  • A specific memory of your friend that no video call could have given you.
  • A friendship that feels lived again, not just maintained.
One object, two jobs: a public answer to a real problem, and — the moment you start the chat — Rabia’s live plan for your version of it.
