My forecast hygiene is clean — so why do my deal calls keep missing?
You keep the pipeline current. Stages update on time, close dates get maintained, nothing is stale. That is not where you are failing. Where you fail is here: you say 'this closes' and it doesn't. You say 'this is safe' and it slips. Hygiene and judgment are two different muscles. You built the first because a messy CRM gets noticed. You never built the second, because it requires admitting you were wrong, out loud, on a regular schedule — and no software forces that on you. Stop asking whether your data is clean. It is. Start asking where your calls missed, and what you wanted to believe when you made them.
Hygiene tells you a deal exists and where it sits. It does not tell you whether it will close. You are asking a record-keeping habit to do a judgment's job. The fix is not tidier data — it is testing your own calls against what actually happened, deal by deal, without flattering yourself.
What changes unlock by starting
- You catch your own optimism before it costs the quarter.
- Your forecast gets more accurate because your judgment improves, not your spreadsheet.
- You stop mistaking activity — updates, notes, stages — for actual insight.
- You can say 'I don't know yet' about a deal instead of guessing to look certain.
