What's my place in a military run by machines?

You watch the drones, the algorithms, the autonomous systems, and you wonder what is left for you to do. That is a fair question. It deserves a straight answer, not comfort. Here is the straight answer: the technology is not your problem. Your problem is that you have not yet named, plainly, what you bring that a machine cannot. Until you name it, every new system will feel like a threat, because you have nothing fixed to stand on. This is within your power to fix. Not by outrunning the technology — you cannot — but by getting honest about your own function and building it on purpose.

Your place is not decided by the technology. It is decided by what you choose to become. Machines execute; they do not judge, and they do not answer for what they do. Stop watching the field change and start building the judgment, character, and command of people that no system performs for you.

A moveFor what remains — judging under uncertainty, leading people, deciding when a system should not be trusted — treat it as a craft to be studied, not a gift you either have or don't.

A moveThis week, find one person who has watched officers get replaced and officers get promoted in this shift. Ask them, plainly, what separated the two.
