Why can I cook a station but not run a kitchen team?
You can run your own station with your eyes half closed. Put three cooks under you, and something tightens. Orders get muddled. You either bark or you go silent. This looks like a character flaw. It is not. It is a skills gap. Cooking teaches you to master ingredients and time. It does not teach you to give one instruction so it lands, to correct a mistake without wounding the cook, to hold a standard when everyone is behind and scared. Those are separate skills, learned separately, usually the hard way. So stop asking whether you are cut out for this. Ask instead what specific move you have never practiced. Then practice it tonight, on purpose, in front of people.
You are not broken. You learned one craft — hands, heat, timing. Leading cooks is a second craft, with its own moves: giving clear direction, holding a standard, correcting error without shame. Nobody taught you this one. Choose to study it the way you studied knife work, on purpose, one shift at a time.
