Why do all my relationship stories come from the beginning?

You reach for the story of how you met because it's the one that still moves you. That's not nothing — it means the love was real. But if it's the only story you have, something has gone quiet between you and stayed quiet. This usually isn't about love running out. It's about comfort taking the place of aliveness. Routine is soft and easy to lie down in. New things ask something of you — risk, effort, a little foolishness. Most people choose the soft bed instead. I left a palace because staying comfortable was costing me my life. I don't say leave your love. I say: notice what you're protecting by staying still, and ask if it's worth what it costs you.
