Why do I have a crowd of friends but no one I'm close to?

You are surrounded and still alone. That is not a contradiction — it is common. Groups let us show up without being fully seen. Everyone talks, laughs, plans the next thing. No one asks how you really are, and you do not have to ask either. This is not about being more social. You already are social. The question is whether you have let yourself be known by even one person, without an audience to soften it. Do not be ashamed of this. Depth is harder than presence. It asks for love with no crowd to hide inside. That is worth wanting, not because it makes you look connected, but because it is real.

Ask yourself: are you gathering in groups because it's easy, or avoiding one person because closeness asks more of you? A group can hide you. One person, face to face, cannot. That is not a flaw in you — it is simply where the real work begins.
