Why do I keep reopening work that's already done?

Look at what actually happens. You finish something. No one has asked for changes. And you go back in anyway, alone, at night maybe, moving words or lines no one will notice, while the next thing on your team's list waits for you. This is not devotion to quality. Quality was met when the work was done. What you're doing now is private. It serves no one — not your team, not the person waiting on the next step, not even you, since you'll feel this same unease tomorrow about tomorrow's task. You did not agree with your team on when a thing is finished. So you are finishing it again and again, by yourself, on no schedule anyone else can see. That is the actual problem. Fix the agreement, not your standards.

What’s really going on

It is done. What you keep opening is not the task — it is your own unease, and you are using someone else's time to settle it. Set the finish line before you start. Name it to your team. When you reach it, hand the work over and stop. That is the whole discipline.

A moveWhen you reach that line, hand the work to someone else the same hour. Don't sit with it overnight.
A moveAsk yourself out loud: 'Who is waiting on me right now?' If someone is, that answers whether you keep polishing.
A moveKeep a short log for one week of every hour spent improving finished work. Show it to your team. Let them tell you if it was needed.
