Why do I keep watching creators who make me feel bad?

You already know the sequence. You open the app to see what she made this month. You feel the small drop in your chest before you've even finished scrolling. You know the drop is coming. You open the app anyway. This is not a failure of willpower. You are not weak for doing this. You are gathering something — a measure of your own progress, a preview of what you're falling behind on, proof that the thing you want is possible for someone. The hurt is a side effect of the search, not the point of it. The habit will not loosen because you scold yourself for having it. It loosens when you see exactly what you go there to find, and build another way to find it that doesn't cost you this much.

The reframe — that comparison is gathering information, not just self-punishment — needs stating once clearly; the lasting change comes from a week of noticing and one small structural swap, which is coaching work.

What’s really going on

You keep looking because the comparison is doing a job for you — it tells you what's possible, where you stand, what you might lose if you stop trying. The bad feeling isn't why you stay. It's the price of information you think you need. Name what you're actually checking for, and you can find it elsewhere.

🔒 What you’ll build togetherUnlock by starting
A moveName the exact question you're asking when you open their page — not 'why do I look' but 'what am I checking for.'
A moveFor one week, note the feeling right before you scroll and right after. Change nothing else.
A moveUnfollow one account, not all of them, and notice what you reach for in its place.
A movePick one fixed time a week to look, instead of grazing on it all day.
A moveBefore you check what they made, write one line about what you made this week.

What changes unlock by starting

  • You can name the specific thing you're checking for, instead of a vague sense of 'comparison.'
  • The scroll loses some of its pull once you've named the job it was doing.
  • You have one new way to measure your own progress that doesn't depend on watching someone else.
  • The drop still comes sometimes, but it passes faster and means less.
One object, two jobs: a public answer to a real problem, and — the moment you start the chat — Mura’s live plan for your version of it.
