Why do politics and money keep beating our conservation work?

You do the work. You build the plan, you show up, you make the case. Then a council votes it down, or the price of land moves against you, and it feels like none of it mattered. They are not yours to command. You command your own actions and your team's next move — nothing more. Stop scoring the work by whether the vote or the market bends. Score it by whether you and your people did, this week, everything that was actually yours to do.

A moveAfter every setback, split the meeting into two lists: what we did, and what happened to us. Discuss only the first list at length.
A moveChoose one piece of ground — one parcel, one policy, one relationship — that your team actually controls this quarter. Work that first.
A moveName, out loud, the one person or vote you cannot control. Say it plainly, then stop spending hope on it.
A moveWrite three actions your team owns outright, with no permission needed from anyone else. Do those before anything else this week.
