Why does doing everyone's books alone wear me down?

You sit alone with the books of several businesses, and each one believes it has your full attention. None of them see the others pulling at you. This is not a character flaw. It is the natural result of a job built for one person to serve many masters with no one beside them. Notice what you have done: you have let "always available" stand in for "reliable." No one asked this of you outright — you built it, hour by hour, out of good intention. What you built, you can rebuild differently. That is within your power, starting today. If the weight turns from tired to something heavier — a sense of dread you cannot shake, or thoughts you cannot manage alone — that is beyond what ledgers and boundaries can fix. Speak to someone trained for that. This page cannot replace them.

What’s really going on

The work itself is not what drains you — the isolation and the endless availability are. You chose to work alone with the numbers; you did not choose to be reachable at all hours by everyone at once. Those are separate problems. Fix the second by building boundaries and a circle of peers, and the first becomes bearable again.
