Why does winter empty me out the same way every year?

You have watched this happen before. The days shorten, and something in you shortens too. You know it is coming, the way you know a pot will boil, and still you wait until you are already cold and already empty to do anything about it. This is not a flaw in you. It is simply a pattern that has not yet met a plan. A pattern seen clearly, many times, is no longer mysterious. It is just weather. And weather can be prepared for. Doing this with others changes it. One person forgets by November what they knew in October. A group remembers for each other. Someone else notices the tiredness in you before you name it yourself.

The pattern is already known to the person; what's missing is the structure and accountability to act on it before depletion sets in, which favors guidance over new teaching.

What’s really going on

You already know the pattern. That is not failure, that is data. The work now is not to understand winter more, but to prepare for it the way you prepare a kitchen before guests arrive — before you are tired, not after.

A moveWith your pod, write down the exact month or week this always starts. Not the feeling — the date.
A moveBefore that date arrives, each person names one small daily act they will keep doing through the season — a walk, a call, a warm meal at a set hour.
A moveChoose one person in the group to check in with you specifically during the hardest weeks, not the whole season.
A moveWhen the tiredness starts, say it out loud to the group within a day. Do not wait until it is heavy.
A moveAt season's end, sit together and ask what actually helped. Keep only that for next year.

What changes unlock by starting

  • You notice the season starting before it has fully taken hold
  • You have one small daily practice already in place instead of scrambling to find one
  • Someone else in your circle is watching for you, and you for them
  • The season still comes, but it does not surprise you, and it does not run as deep
One object, two jobs: a public answer to a real problem, and — the moment you start the chat — Dipa’s live plan for your version of it.
