Nobody officially requires me to be always available. I have made myself so. The expectation is self-generated and I resent it without being willing to remove it.

Any time not spent working feels wasted to me — a slow afternoon, an unproductive evening, a lazy morning all carry a low guilt. I have lost the ability to value time that produces nothing, which means I can never fully rest in it.Even in the closest moments — with my partner, my children, the people I love most — my mind is half on work. I am physically present and mentally drafting an email, and the people in front of me can feel that I am not really there.Even when I am not working my mind is still at work.
