Brain-computer interfaces

To connect the brain directly to a computer is to make the interface between self and tool nearly invisible — to make the tool, in some sense, part of the self. Whether this is an extension of human capacity or a colonization of it depends on who builds it, who profits from it, and who has no choice but to accept it.
