The Examined Heart's Lineage of Questioning

Mirabai inherited the devotional lineage of Krishna bhakti but radically questioned it: challenging gender norms, rejecting asceticism, demanding direct access to the divine. Her examined heart used tradition not as constraint but as platform for deeper questions. This framework recognizes that those carrying unexamined rage often inherit it: family patterns of anger, cultural silencing, transgenerational trauma. The examined heart practice involves both honoring our lineages and interrogating them. Where did this rage come from? What wounds was I born into? What voices have I silenced because they contradicted inherited narratives? By examining our emotional inheritance, we become able to choose what we carry forward and what we release. Mirabai's model shows this is not betrayal but deepening: the examined heart uses ancestral wisdom to become more truthful, more authentic, more free. The rage underneath sometimes belongs to those who came before; examining it honors them by finally speaking what was previously unspoken.
