Denied and disputed claims put me in a bind—what now?

You handle most claims without trouble. It's the denied and disputed ones that catch you — someone angry on the other end, pushing back, and you standing between the rules and their frustration. Be honest about what's actually happening. You are not stuck on the claim itself. You already know the policy. You are stuck wanting them to accept it calmly, maybe even thank you for it. That was never yours to control. The skill you need here is not more knowledge. It's the discipline to do your part completely — the facts, the explanation, the record — and then let their response be their own business, not yours to manage.

The person already has the technical knowledge; what's missing is the practice of separating their job from the other person's reaction, which is a coaching problem, not a teaching one.

What’s really going on

The bind isn't the claim. It's your wish that the other person agree with you. You cannot control that. You can control whether you gather the facts, state the decision plainly, and document it. Do that part fully. Choose your next action, not their reaction.

A moveBefore you respond, write down the specific facts that support the decision. Say only those, nothing more.
A moveState the denial once, plainly. Don't soften it into vagueness or repeat it five times hoping they'll like it better.
A moveWhen they push back, ask if they have new information. If not, restate the decision and end the call.
A moveAfter each hard case, write one line: what did I control, and what did I not.
A moveStop rehearsing the conversation after it ends. It's finished. Move to the next thing in front of you.

What changes unlock by starting

  • You handle disputed claims with less dread going in.
  • Your explanations get shorter and clearer.
  • You stop replaying arguments you can't win because they were never yours to win.
  • You recover faster after a bad call and move on to the next case.
One object, two jobs: a public answer to a real problem, and — the moment you start the chat — Aurelius’s live plan for your version of it.
