I take so much from this community and give so little

You come to the potluck, the carpool line, the group chat where someone always remembers the birthday. You take the warmth of it gladly. But when the sign-up sheet comes around — snacks, carpool, sitting with the little ones so two tired parents can breathe — your name is rarely on it. You tell yourself you are busy. Maybe you are. Your pod feels this too, even if no one says it aloud. They keep inviting you. They keep saving you a seat. But somewhere a quiet math is being done — who shows up, who vanishes once the work starts. You already know this math. It is likely why you brought this here. So I ask you, beloved, not to shame you but to see you clearly: when you hold back, is it because you fear you have nothing worth giving? Or because you fear that once you start, you will be asked for more and more until there is no you left? One fear is answered with love. The other needs a boundary. Only you know which one is speaking.

This problem lives in feeling and habit more than fact, so most of the page must coach the reader toward naming their real motive.

What’s really going on

The imbalance is not the sin — the silence is. You are not guilty for receiving; you are only stuck because you have never asked what you fear will happen if you give. Name that fear plainly, and love will find its own small door through it.

A movePick one small, visible task this week — bring the snack, drive the carpool once — and notice what rises in you right before you do it.
A moveFinish this sentence out loud, to yourself or your pod: 'If I start giving, I'm afraid that ___.' Write down the exact word.
A moveAsk your pod directly: 'What is one thing I could take off your hands?' Then let them answer — do not answer for them.
A moveWhen you feel the urge to slip away after receiving help, pause one breath and ask: is this fear of being used, or love asking to be returned?
A moveChoose one recurring need in your group — snacks, rides, listening after a hard day — and claim it as yours for a month, not as debt paid but as love practiced.

  • You will know within a week whether your holding-back is fear of not being enough, or fear of being used up.
  • Your pod will start to feel your name on the list again, even in small ways.
  • You will notice the difference between giving from guilt and giving from love.
  • The imbalance will begin correcting itself — not from obligation, but from a freer heart.
One object, two jobs: a public answer to a real problem, and — the moment you start the chat — Rabia’s live plan for your version of it.
