Why Do I Have No Mentors, and How Do I Find One?

You say you have no mentors, as if this were done to you. Look closer. You have not chosen a place to be seen doing good work, repeatedly, over time. That is the actual gap. Sponsors and mentors do not appear because you deserve them. They appear because they watched you solve something, answer something, or show up when it was inconvenient. You cannot shortcut the watching. This page will not hand you a mentor. It will show you how to build the conditions where one finds you — and how to stop mistaking waiting for effort.

What’s really going on

No one is coming to find you. Mentors and sponsors notice people who show up again and again in the same rooms and do useful work there. This is not luck — it is a habit you have not built yet. Pick one room. Enter it this week. Return until you are known.

A moveChoose one recurring space — a project, a meetup, a working group — where people ahead of you gather, and commit to attending for two months without missing a session.
A moveBefore asking anyone for anything, do visible, useful work in that space: answer a question, finish a task no one claimed, share something you know.
A moveAsk one real person one specific question — not 'will you mentor me,' but something like 'how did you handle X' — and listen fully.
A moveWithin a week of any real conversation, follow up and name what you did with their answer. This is how you become worth remembering.
A moveKeep a short list of who you spoke with and what you asked. Review it monthly. Notice who you have let the relationship go cold with, and act.
