Why can't I say my own title out loud?

You did the work. Your role changed. Your judgment changed. But when someone asks what you do, you still say the smaller word. You call it modesty. It is not modesty. It is fear dressed as humility. No one will hand you permission to say the bigger word. No ceremony will make it feel safe. You are waiting for a feeling that will never come. The choice is yours to make now, not later. Your pod cannot claim it for you. But they can hear you say it, and notice when you take it back. That is the work — say it in front of them, and let them hold you to it.

What’s really going on

You are not being modest — you are choosing the smaller word because it feels safer than the truth. The title you earned is already yours. Stop asking permission to say it. Write it down today, say it once out loud, and let the discomfort pass through instead of stopping you.

A moveWrite the exact words of your new title today — no hedge, no 'kind of,' no 'basically.'
A moveSay it out loud to one person before the day ends, in a sentence that does not apologize.
A moveChange your profile to match it now, in front of your pod, so retreat costs something.
A moveNotice the moment you shrink the title in a sentence, and finish that same sentence with the bigger word instead.
A moveAsk your pod to name it out loud every time you undersell yourself this week.

What changes unlock by starting

  • You say your actual title without flinching, in person and in writing.
  • Your profile matches the work you already do, not the work you used to do.
  • You catch yourself shrinking mid-sentence and correct it on the spot.
  • Your pod holds you to the claim on the days you forget to hold it yourself.
